It is wonderfully peculiar impossible to look away
We once searched for heritage crafts in villages across Yunnan. When we walked past an old house, we looked up and saw a clay cat squatting on the roof. Bared teeth and wide eyes made it hard to tell if it looked fierce or funny. We were told this was a Wamao. Yunnan people place it right on the roof ridge to swallow misfortune and hold good luck for the family. We thought this quirky and lovely creature should not be left forgotten on rooftops. We worked with local craftsmen to bring the Wamao down from the roof. We made it smaller and steadier, so it could sit on bookshelves, tea tables and window sills. That is how EAVECATT gradually took shape.
